NYC in action, circa 1935...

Seventh Avenue Looking South from 35th St., Manhattan
Berenice Abbott, 1935
Part of Abbott's CHANGING NEW YORK project
Interesting bio of the artist here and here. Berenice was a photographer, sculptor, and a poet in the 1920's, and became a darkroom assistant to Man Ray before starting her own studio in Europe.
During a visit to New York in 1929, she was inspired by the potential of a photographic project highlighting NYC architecture and design. This evolved into her CHANGING NEW YORK position via the Federal Art Project.
Inspiring woman!
